About the PI
Jonas Becker is the PI of the Solid-State Quantum Optics Group (S2QO). His research at MSU focuses on experimental quantum information science using optically-active systems in solid-state host materials such as defects in synthetic diamond and rare earth-doped crystals. This includes high-resolution spectroscopic investigations as well as optical and microwave-based quantum control of individual novel defects in diamond to make them accessible as solid-state quantum bits, the development of quantum devices such as optical quantum memories and quantum interconnects based on solid-state platforms, and experiments designed to probe the foundations of quantum mechanics, in particular quantum thermodynamics.
He is also affiliated with the Fraunhofer USA Center Midwest for Coatings & Diamond Technologies to combine his expertise in the characterization of quantum materials with the center's materials synthesis and processing capabilities.
